California

CALIFORNIA   GEOGRAPHIE:   California, the golden state, with 413.000 qm is the third biggest state of the USA. It extends in the South-West along the Pacific coast. The highest point is called Mount Whitney (4418 metres) in the Sierre Nevada. Apart from the capital Sacramento there are two important conurbations, San Francisco and Los Angeles. In the South-East you can find dry deserts; the central and northern California cover extensive forests; the North-West is dominated by the steep slopes of the Sierra Nevada.

  PLANTS AND ANIMALS:   Entirely are the 3000 years old Redwoods at the coast in the North of Monterey. In the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National parcs grow the most impressed Sequoia trees. The flora is versatile, the fauna too. In the climated equable forests live stags, deers and also bears; in the deserts are snakes and cojots.   POPULATION:   California is the most settled state the USA with 30 million people. In the South is Spanish worth as the second language apart from English.

In the conurbations are settled a lot of Korean and Japanese.           ECONOMICS:   California belongs to the leading industrial and economic states of the USA. But California has to fight against problemes in Silicon Valley and in the aircraft industry. The forest stand is threaten and the wood industry has got many problemes.
